Silicon Dioxide

Industrial Grade · Food Grade — Bulk supply across India & International Markets

What is Silicon Dioxide?

Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), commonly known as Silica, is one of the most abundant compounds on earth and an essential industrial raw material in its synthetic amorphous form. Polychem Industries supplies synthetic amorphous Silicon Dioxide produced via precipitation or fumed processes — distinct from crystalline silica (sand/quartz) — in the form of an extremely fine, lightweight white powder with a very high surface area.

We supply Precipitated Silica and Fumed Silica grades to rubber manufacturers, paint and coating companies, food processors, cosmetic formulators, and pharmaceutical companies across India and internationally. Its unique combination of high surface area, reinforcing ability, and thickening properties make it indispensable across diverse industrial sectors.

Applications & Uses

๐Ÿš—

Rubber & Tyre Industry

The largest application globally. Precipitated Silica is used as a reinforcing filler in tyre treads (especially "green tyres"), rubber compounds, and footwear, improving wear resistance, rolling resistance, and wet grip performance.

๐ŸŽจ

Paints, Coatings & Inks

Used as a matting agent, anti-settling agent, and rheology modifier in paints and coatings. Controls gloss level, prevents pigment settling, and improves scratch resistance in industrial and architectural coatings.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Food Anti-Caking Agent

Food Grade Silicon Dioxide (E551) is used as an anti-caking and free-flow agent in powdered foods including spices, soup mixes, salt, and powdered beverages, preventing clumping caused by moisture absorption.

๐Ÿ’†

Cosmetics & Personal Care

Used as a thickener, anti-caking agent, and mattifying agent in cosmetics including face powders, toothpaste, and skincare formulations. Provides oil absorption and a smooth, silky after-feel.

๐Ÿ’Š

Pharmaceutical Excipient

Used as a glidant and flow aid in tablet and capsule manufacturing, improving the flow properties of powder blends during high-speed tableting and ensuring uniform fill weights.

๐Ÿงช

Adhesives & Sealants

Used as a thixotropic thickening agent and reinforcing filler in silicone sealants, adhesives, and specialty rubber compounds, providing anti-sag properties and improved mechanical strength.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Precipitated Silica and Fumed Silica?
Precipitated Silica is produced by a wet chemical precipitation process and has a lower surface area and lower cost, making it the preferred choice for rubber reinforcement and bulk industrial applications. Fumed Silica is produced by a high-temperature flame hydrolysis process, resulting in an extremely fine particle size, very high surface area, and superior thickening efficiency — making it preferred for coatings, sealants, and cosmetics where maximum thickening or thixotropic effect is required at low dosage.
Is Silicon Dioxide safe to consume in food?
Yes — Food Grade Silicon Dioxide (E551) is approved by FSSAI and international food safety bodies as an anti-caking agent. It passes through the digestive system largely unabsorbed and has an extensive safety record in food applications including table salt, spice blends, and powdered products.
Why is Silica used in tyres and what are "green tyres"?
"Green tyres" use Precipitated Silica instead of (or alongside) carbon black as the primary reinforcing filler in the tyre tread compound. Silica-reinforced tyres offer significantly lower rolling resistance (improving fuel efficiency), better wet grip, and reduced rolling noise compared to conventional carbon-black tyres, while maintaining good wear resistance.
Do you export Silicon Dioxide outside India?
Yes. We export to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and South Africa with full export documentation. Contact us for export pricing and lead times.
